“Can you sound like David Morrissey? Except not a man?”

“Hey Emma! Can you sound like David Morrissey? Except not a man?”

David Morrissey is one of my favourite actors. There’s a thundering rage inside him; like he’s the kind of man who wants to tear down a building from the inside. His voice thrums with passion, full of the fury of a working class hero, pulsing with the life blood of Liverpool.

Reader, it’s a tall order to match him.

Especially when you’re a Manc woman.

The job was all about the city and its place in the world. The writing was beautiful – moving, honest, powerful. I wanted to do it justice.

My very first professional theatre performance was in Liverpool and I utterly and completely fell in love with the city. (I played the lead in Jonathan Harvey’s first play ‘The Cherry Blossom Tree’ at the tender age of 16). Liverpool has a special meaning for me.

So have a listen. This audio is best experienced looking out across the city of Liverpool, at the River Mersey and the hulking Welsh hills beyond.

Enjoy.
